curatorial project, 2019 – ongoing
FALLOUT applies the consideration of “work injury” to artist cinema and moving image, and involves an enquiry into how modes of viewing artist cinema, and methods of feminist group work, could be used to explore new understandings of bodies, class and labour. The project engages with principles of disability justice to think through what can be done to create more equitable cultural spaces that include people of physical, psychological, sensory and cognitive difference. Following Carolyn Lazard’s definition, we consider this a ‘speculative practice’.
In partnership with Mint Konsthall based at ABF Stockholm, we curated a series of screenings of artist films, including works by Sarah Browne, Rehana Zaman, Gago Gagoshidze, Tina Keane and Adriana Monti. Current research involves engaging with former members of the Women and Work Hazards Group in the UK, who aimed to bring a feminist perspective to the trade union movement, and expand the considerations of both “health” and “hazards” in the organisation and management of the workplace (including the home).
